I took my shedding tool to my pony today. I've noticed her coat has been looking rather loose, and when she rolls she leaves dark coloured pony hair all over the snow so I thought I'd give her a hand. This was the result.

That paltry little red handful on the left is from my horse. She is doubtful that spring is truly here and so is holding onto her coat a little longer. It is still nice and dense.

But my pony has plenty to spare as she becomes quite wooly in the winter time. I will collect many more piles like that before she is sleek and slick again. I wonder how many baby birds will be hatched into a snuggly nest of pony-fur this spring.

Pony bum.

Further evidence of spring- pussy willows!

The chickadees are quite pleased with this as well.

The pond is still all ice, though; it isn't really spring until the red-winged blackbirds return here.
